I was actually looking for something else when I spied these hiding under some bushes. Wild strawberries (fragaria Virginiana)
From the book Stalking the Wild Dandelion:
Earls, dukes, princes, and marquises used the common strawberry's beautifully-shaped 3-parted, evenly-toothed compound leaves as emblems on their crowns.
