DAY 72

If you've ever had even the faintest inkling to explore the trail in the snow: go now. It's magical out there!

DAY 68

Camelback bridge.

Erected in 1889.

We're told that the bridge's main span is a "wooden kingpost pony truss." Which is surprisingly difficult to say. Especially when it's cold outside.

The iron supports are called Phoenix columns, which were patented by the Phoenix Iron Company in 1862.

Those Phoenix columns are very cool.

DAY 66

Sugar Creek.
Snow on one side,
green grass
on the other.

DAY 63

Draco, the mighty blizzard of 2012.

It was a bit like riding a bike inside a particle accelerator. Or what I imagine that would be like, anyway.

DAY 62

Home Sweet Home.

Spider lives here.

Bees live here.
I have no idea what lives in these mud huts. But I'd really like to know.

DAY 62

Misc day

Images have been accumulating that are too random to classify.

Strangely pocked huge tube of rusty steel.

Sumac stem sans leaves.

Perfect pod.

Brave red leaves.

Lavender stalk.

DAY 61

Why do so many things look like UFOs? And did designers and architects start using that shape after it became popular because of UFOs? I believe the first UFO illustrations were penned in the days of art deco streamlining.

And why do our actual space probes look so ungainly by comparison?

These little guys can be seen hovering along outside the multi-modal transportation center.

DAY 60

The case of the
speckled logs

These curious-looking logs
were in a woodpile
along the trail.

The polka dots are
oddly festive.

DAY 59

Grates are great.

The colors are always
intriguing and it amazes
me how the steel
is worn so smooth.

DAY 58

A dark, dreary, drippy, December day

[though the 48 degree temperatures were great!]

DAY 57

December 13th and the ornamental kale behind the Children's Discovery Museum is still looking amazing.

DAY 56

 Angles (not angels)

One of the best things about the trail is the light.
Winter is the best — there's more light streaming through the bare trees.

The shadows are always amazing.
