DAY 58

A dark, dreary, drippy, December day

[though the 48 degree temperatures were great!]

DAY 57

December 13th and the ornamental kale behind the Children's Discovery Museum is still looking amazing.

DAY 56

 Angles (not angels)

One of the best things about the trail is the light.
Winter is the best — there's more light streaming through the bare trees.

The shadows are always amazing.

DAY 55

 I'm fond of birds.
I truly am.

But I must speak to you
of a growing menace.

The fowl I'm so fond of
have taken to nesting
at the corner of the trail
as it curves behind the multi-modal transportation center (or whatever it's called).

Particularly at night.

Disturbing these birds by
riding underneath their trees can result in an unholy rain of
foul debris.

DAY 54

This is my first full winter of riding on the trail. I continue to be amazed by all of the color that hangs on despite the cold and wind and rain.

DAY 53

The duck population along the trail seems to be thriving. What does one call a group of ducks?

Well online we're told that a "group of ducks is called a badelynge, bunch, brace, flock, paddling, raft or team. Also, one might call it a dover of ducks."

Now I love a bit of pretentious name-calling as well as the next man, but those names seem entirely too Brit to me.

Since we already refer to a large quantity as a "big honking X" why not call a group of ducks a honk?

A honk of ducks.

That's my suggestion anyway.

DAY 52

A very brave little yule tree.

It's sitting on top of a heap of miscellaneous stuff out on the west portion of the trail. Say Merry Christmas if you see it.
